L'histoire se passe en 2417. Valérian, un jeune pilote spatio-temporel très talentueux, est envoyé en mission à bord du "Tempus Fugit" pour récolter des informations sur l'année 912 en Normandie. Au cours de l'expédition, il modifie le temps malgré la loi pour sauver une jeune et belle saltimbanque : Laureline. Après cela, ils retournent tous les deux en 2417, mais à leur grande surprise, la Terre a disparu. Ils deviennent les deux seuls Terriens de l'univers. Valérian et Laureline sont toujours à la recherche de la Terre de Galaxity quand les Vlagos conspirent pour contrôler l'univers...

Valerian and Laureline are hired to transport drazel eggs to a safe haven. Easy enough, except that whoever hears a drazel cry is doomed to laugh to death and the babies are due to hatch in 24 hours. Flying a shortcut through the dangerous route 188 leads to an asteroid collision and the loss of precious time.
Valerian and Laureline are to fly a rare creature to a zoo, but before they can, it breaks out of its cage and releases a bird that bites Valerian's shoulder. The bird's poison causes insanity, then death, so it's up to Laureline to get an antidote, which requires a flower from the tree with 100,000 limbs.
Valerian rescues Prince Coren from pirates, but during their escape, his ship is damaged, forcing them to land on an uncharted planet. While looking for help, Valerian falls and bangs his head. When he comes to, though, standing over him is a female version of Coren, and this one has a major crush on Valerian.
Valerian and Laureline explore a mysterious derelict spaceship that went missing 153 years ago. Except they discover that it might not quite be devoid of life...
While in a junkyard looking for spaceship parts, Valerian finds an android called RGE, but they're both taken prisoner by Dr. Zessel. Zessel creates an android double of Valerian to pump Laureline for information, while Val and his new android buddy hatch a plot to escape the mad doctor's dungeon.
After arriving at Central Point, Valerian and Laureline encounter Prince Baral of Aldebaran, who’s on the run from Gork Yodol, an evil tyrant with plans to conquer the galaxy. The partners help the prince escape to his embassy by taking to the sewers, making a dangerous adversary of Gork in the process
In the year 2417 new space time agent Valerian embarks on his first voyage. In the year 912 he meets the irrepressible Laureline. Despite the best of intentions, they find that they have somehow changed the future and there is much to set aright.
